Pallet Covers vs. Pallet Protectors: Top Sheeting, Edge Protectors & Corrugated Pads

Pallet Covers vs. Pallet Protectors: Top Sheeting, Edge Protectors & Corrugated Pads

Do you need a pallet cover, top sheeting, edge protectors, or corrugated pads? It depends on what's threatening the load. Each one solves a different problem, and buying the wrong one is how you end up with crushed corners under a perfectly clean top layer.

BOXT carries all four at our Spanish Fork warehouse, with same-day pickup and next-day or same-week delivery across the Wasatch Front. Shipping from outside Utah? Most orders arrive in 3–5 business days.

Which One Do You Need?

Two of these cover the load, and two of them physically protect it.

  • Pallet covers — dust, dirt and light moisture on all sides. Best for stored pallets and long transit.
  • Pallet top sheeting — dust, debris and overhead contamination on the top of the load. Best for racked pallets and high-volume lines.
  • Edge protectors — crushed corners, strap bite and load shift. Best for shipped and double-stacked pallets.
  • Corrugated pads — layer separation and surface damage inside the stack. Best for mixed loads and product that can't take direct contact.

Pallet Covers: Full Wraparound Protection

Our pallet covers are large, clear gusseted poly bags that drop over the whole load. The gusseted construction gives a full wraparound fit on standard and oversized pallets, so the sides are covered as well as the top. They come pre-cut and perforated on a roll for fast, consistent application in high-volume operations.

  • Clear poly — you can see the contents and read labels without removing the cover.
  • 1 mil and 2 mil — choose the thickness to match load weight and how rough the handling will be.
  • Protection level — dust, dirt and light moisture during storage and transit.
  • Second use — they can also line large gaylord containers for moisture protection.

Pallet Top Sheeting: Top-Only Coverage

If you only need to protect the top of the load, pallet top sheeting is the lighter-touch option. It's a flat sheet rather than a bag. It comes centrally folded, 250 sheets per roll on a 3-inch core, in clear or black, so one person can pull a single sheet by hand or load the roll into a standard sheeting dispenser.

  • Clear — you can confirm what's on the pallet without pulling the sheet.
  • Black — opaque, for when you'd rather not advertise what's on the pallet.

Top sheeting shields the top layer from dust, debris and moisture, and it's especially useful for pallets sitting in racking where things fall from above. Neither top sheeting nor a pallet cover holds a load together. That's still the job of stretch wrap.

Edge Protectors: Corners, Stacking and Strap Control

Edge protectors run down the vertical corners of a palletized load. Our medium duty edge protectors reinforce the corners where loads take the most abuse, add strength for double-stacked pallets, and help stabilize the load in transit. You secure them with stretch wrap or strapping, and they also work inside cartons as added structural support.

If the question is edge protectors versus corner protectors, we break that down in our wholesale buying guide.

Corrugated Pads: Layer Protection Inside the Stack

Corrugated sheets and pads go between layers, under a load, or against surfaces that shouldn't touch. They prevent damage between stacked items and reinforce the pallet itself. Specs you can choose from:

  • Grade — 32-ECT, or 51-ECT in heavyweight.
  • Flute — C flute or BC flute.
  • Wall — single-wall and double-wall options.

Common uses are pallet layering, slip sheets, dividers and surface protection. Pads are the pick when the product itself needs a flat, firm separator, and a film cover won't help.

Using Them Together

Most shipped pallets use more than one. Pads between layers keep product from chewing on product, edge protectors take the corner abuse, stretch wrap and strapping lock it all down, and a cover or top sheet keeps the load clean. Start with the threat, not the product, and you'll rarely over- or under-buy.
